HX5 is currently seeking a nuclear physicist/engineer with experience in Monte Carlo particle analysis, reactor physics, and particle transport to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The position involves working with members of NASA’s various power and propulsion branches on the development of fission surface power for lunar and Martian applications. Occasional travel for the purposes of communicating results and presenting progress of the work is anticipated.
Job responsibilities include:
Create and execute particle transport and reactivity simulations for Fission Surface Power. Analyze various radiation interactions with, and from, the reactor while on a Martian and Lunar surface, capturing various reactor operational reactivity conditions. Develop reactor physics, particle transport, and activation models for various Fission Surface Power scenarios. Interacting with Scientists and Research Engineers specializing in nuclear power and propulsion applications. Documenting, reporting, and presenting results clearly and concisely.Required Skills:
Expertise with the Los Alamos National Laboratory Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code. Strong experience with reactor physics and particle transport. Strong technical writing and presentation skills.Desired Skills:
Knowledge of lumped parameter overall systems modelling.Education/Experience:
Minimum - M.S. degree in Nuclear Physics or Engineering or equivalent with 6 to 15 years of experience. Desired - Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Physics or Engineering or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience.Other Position Requirements:
