MCFR Nuclear Safety Discipline Manager
TerraPower, LLC. is seeking a Discipline Manager for the MCFR (Molten Chloride Fast Reactor) Nuclear Safety discipline. This role will oversee all safety basis development activities under the MCFR program. The Discipline Manager will work to assure technical adequacy of work product from direct reports, develop and oversee engineering processes related to Nuclear Safety, provide personnel management to reports, and provide technical support and approvals for MCFR projects.
Responsibilities
• Serve as a primary point of contact for MCFR Nuclear Safety
• Oversee safety basis development for projects across the MCFR program
• Provide management guidance, mentorship, 1:1s and Company performance reviews for individuals within MCFR Nuclear Safety
• Develop training and qualifications for engineers on the nuclear safety team
• Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers to establish SSC functional, performance, safety, and quality requirements as well as support the overall design
• Knowledge of software quality program requirements and interface with configuration management of safety analysis tools and analyses
• Work with licensing in supporting the development of regulatory engagement topical reports
• Develop methodologies supporting the analysis required for safety basis development
• Approve technical documents originated within MCFR Nuclear Safety
• Provide oversight of technical tasks within discipline areas of responsibility
• Lead discipline group meetings, communication, and announcements
• Assign tasks to individuals within Nuclear Safety to support project objectives
• Interface with project stakeholders to ensure tasks are prioritized appropriately and promote communication across the discipline
• Assist in the development, maintenance, and use of discipline guidelines (e.g., design criteria, design guides, desktop instructions, design notes).
• Assist with the engineering staffing plan, hiring process, and onboarding within the discipline
• Recognize the need and recommend obtaining external subject matter experts
· Approve weekly timecard submissions for individuals within MCFR Nuclear Safety
Key Qualifications and Skills
• B.S. in nuclear, chemical, mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering (or similar), with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the nuclear field; or M.S. with a minimum of 7 years’ experience; or Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years’ experience.
• Demonstrated experience conducting and leading various reactor-focused safety analysis
• Knowledge of NRC and/or DOE safety basis requirements
• Experience leading and supervising resources to support preparation of nuclear safety basis deliverables
• Understanding of NQA-1 requirements associated with analysis and software management as well as experience working under quality assurance programs.
• Knowledge of software quality program requirements and interface with configuration management of safety analysis tools and analyses
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
• Experience with design integration activities such as nuclear design procedures/guides, requirements management, design bases, and configuration management
Additional Qualifications and Skills
• Experience with advanced reactor designs, especially fast-spectrum systems and molten salt systems
• Familiarity with nuclear design, regulatory requirements, and risk-informed performance-based technology guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors is a plus (Licensing Modernization Project process described in NEI-18-04)
• Familiarity with the NRC RG 1.203 is a plus

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
