Responsibilities The Fargo, ND VA HCS is recruiting an intermittent CRNA to provide as needed coverage. CLINICAL ROLE: 1. Assess, monitor, and provide IV sedation, conduction anesthesia or general anesthesia for patients. 2. Perform preoperative evaluation for surgical patients. 3. Participate in a team approach to ensure appropriate patient assessments, anticipate patient care needs, prevent avoidable complications, and achieve optimal patient conditions. 4. Act in adherence of nursing care in accordance with ethical principles. 5. Function within the scope of practice as delineated by the Chief of Anesthesiology in collaboration with the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Surgical Care ICC. 6. Participate in an even distribution of call as determined by the Chief of Anesthesiology in collaboration with the ACOS, Surgical Care ICC. C. PROCEDURES: All anesthetists working at the VA Health Care System in Fargo, North Dakota, in this position are to have completed appropriate training and demonstrated proficiency in administering the following procedures: * Management of procedures for rendering a patient insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical, and certain medical procedures. * The support of life functions under the stress of anesthetic and surgical manipulations. * The clinical management of the patient unconscious from other causes. * Management of problems in pain relief. * Management of problems in cardiac and respiratory resuscitation. * Application of specific methods of inhalation therapy. * Clinical management of various fluid, electrolyte, and metabolic disturbances * Local infiltration anesthesia. * Axillary block. * Bier block. * Regional anesthesia. * Saddle block. * Other spinal techniques. * Insertion of radial artery line. * Peripheral nerve block. * Ankle block. * Interscalene block. * Intercostal block. * Placement of epidural cannula for administration of analgesic agents. * Central venous pressure line insertion. * Swan Ganz insertion. * PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) line insertion. * Basic Life Support Certified (certificate required). * Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certified (certificate required). Qualifications Advanced Practice Nurse (Certified Nurse Anesthetist) Basic Requirements English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education. A masters or doctoral degree in nurse anesthesia. (Applicants pending the completion of educational requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until the education requirements are met.) Nursing education must be from a school of professional nursing anesthesia accredited by Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs (COA) at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Licensure and Certification. The following licensure and certification requirements are considered conditions of employment. License. All APN (CNAs) must maintain an active, current, full and unrestricted license to practice as a CNA or equivalent, in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Basic Certification. All APN (CNAs) must maintain full and current certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or an equivalent Nurse Anesthetist certification recognized by the COA. NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and an APN (CNA) assignment that are also performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.
