Nurse Clinician III- LCC Day Surgery

The Pre-Op Nurse will be responsible for preparing patients for surgery, ensuring they are physically and emotionally ready for their procedures. This role involves close collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

RN with Bachelor’s in Nursing, four years of clinical RN experience with at least 2 years in a pre-operative or surgical setting. Must possess and maintain a current RN license or valid temporary permit to practice in Texas. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Proficient Clinician. Possesses knowledge and skill to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice as specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act.  Practice is characterized by a balance of interdependent/independent decision-making and a consistent holistic approach to patient care. Proficiently functions with the interdisciplinary team; initiates team action to address patient care problems. Serves as a strong clinical leader on the unit. Directs others in responding to emergent or unusual situations. Takes the lead in developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based standards of practice for specialty area.  Provides patient care through nursing practices based upon the American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Practice and Professional Performance. Values specialty unit, nursing, and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct pre-operative assessments, including reviewing patient medical histories, medications, and allergies.

Educate patients and their families about the surgical process, including pre-operative instructions and post-operative care.

Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests as needed.

Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed.

Ensure all necessary documentation and consent forms are completed and signed.

Monitor patients' vital signs and report any abnormalities to the surgical team.

Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.

Maintain a sterile and safe environment in the pre-operative area.

Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow.

Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

Additional nursing tasks as needed.
