NURSE EDUCATOR II - MED SURG UROLOGY- BETHESDA NORTH HOSPITAL
Job Overview:

This position is a registered nurse with demonstrated clinical and instructional expertise who has responsibility for nursing staff development. This position assesses, develops, delivers, coordinates and evaluates learning activities for nursing staff to meet orientation, regulatory training, and continuing education needs. This position collaborates with the nursing leadership team to support quality patient care and strategic initiatives. This position uses good interpersonal communication skills and develops collegial relationships with peers. This position has responsibities on a (system wide) level to help create and present education at an organizational wide level to include Professional Nurse Residency program. This position requires you to hold a seat on an organizational council or committee and hold a seat on the Nursing Clinical Support Team. This position requires you to be in a staffing position for 8 hours per pay period to help maintain excellence in skills. Exhibits creative and effective problem solving and initiative in managing change. Independently and efficiently performs responsibilities and day to day tasks.

Job Requirements:

Master's Degree in Nursing; or Masters in a related field with BSN
Certification within specialty area within two years of assuming position 
Registered Nurse
Demonstrated expertise in area of clinical specialization Exceptional interpersonal relations and skills in problem solving, learning, instructing, and instructional planning
Membership in related professional organization desired
3-4 years experience Clinical in Nursing Nursing practice in an acute or related specialty field
2-3 years experience Professional in Nursing Experience as staff educator 
Design and implementation of staff development programs, and demonstrated effectiveness in interpersonal competencies Orienting/precepting newly hired nurses, guest lecturing, and providing unit in-services

Job Responsibilities:

Provides support for the competency-based orientation and evaluation of nursing staff. Collaborates in the development of unit specific orientation plans. Evaluates the outcomes of unit based orientation plans and recommends appropriate improvements. Supports the clinical competency assessment program facilitating the feedback, individual action planning, and documentation processes. Provides basic and advanced developmental support to unit preceptors. Facilitates the development of critical thinking skills in new graduate nurses through the planning and coordination of orientation activities and processes.
Provides and promotes educational services in area of specialty. Collaborates in the identification and assessment of nursing team educational needs. Prioritizes needs in collaboration with management team and plans appropriate learning activities to meet prioritized needs. Develops, implements, and evaluates team educational materials and programs, and considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in developing educational activities. Applies advanced level educational principles and skills to improve patient and family outcomes. Facilitates the application of research findings from the literature into practice. 
Contributes to the development, maintenance, and change of the health care delivery system. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit, department, and institutional goals. Role models professional standards of nursing practice. Serves as an advocate for nurses and as a mentor to members of the health care team. Collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care for patients and family.
Participates in clinical quality improvement activities in the health care setting, promoting excellence. Participates in the evaluation of nursing care and patient outcomes. Collaborates with management in the identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of process and clinical quality activities. Initiates or participates in nursing research and evidence-based practice in order to improve staff education and/or patient care. Identifies, recommends, and facilitates implementation of clinical best practices. Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential records.
Defines goals and pursues opportunities for professional growth. Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment, peer review, and customer feedback, and provides peers with constructive feedback regarding their practice. Participates in review of current literature/research and CMS regulatory changes. Participates in a variety of educational activities in order to maintain and increase competence including continuing education, specialty certification, professional organization membership/leadership, formal education and participation in hospital-based or industry based learning.
