Nurse Extern

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Extern has the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skill in the practice of nursing under the direct supervision of registered nurse preceptor. The Nurse Extern performs direct and indirect patient care functions. These activities prepare the Nurse Extern for the role transition from student nurse to health care team member.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Enrollment required in an NLN accredited Board of Nursing approved program to prepare candidates for registered nurse licensure. Students of diploma and two year programs must have completed at least two clinical nursing courses with a minimum grade of “C”. Baccalaureate students must have completed all junior level courses with a minimum grade of “C”. Students must submit a Skills Checklist completed by their school of nursing to validate academic/ clinical standing.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current BLSHCP certification required.
EXPERIENCE: Two semesters clinical student nursing experience. Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with other team members; ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems and use proper judgment is difficult situations. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
