The Student Nurse Extern I (SNE I) may perform acts that are routinely of any nursing assistant job description. SNE may also perform additional acts that have been taught in their nursing education program provided they are individually educationally prepared and clinically competent to perform these acts.
It is incumbent upon the DOE or designate to independently verify and document competencies of the student to successfully perform the acts that are included in the SNE Job Description.
Under the supervision of an RN, assists in assuring optimal patient care, while continuing as a Nursing Student in good standing.
Performs clinical skills according to hospital policy and procedures.Performs technical skill according to policy and procedure.Maintains hospital and patient confidentiality.Demonstrates concern for patient welfare by performing activities other than primary care needs.Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately to patients, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.Adheres to Hospital’s Standards of PerformanceA graduate nurse can remain in the Extern Program until after an unsuccessful 2nd attempt at NCLEXAdheres to Arizona State Board of Nursing RegulationsOther duties as assigned by management.Every effort has been made to make this job description as complete as possible. Minimum EducationMust show proof of acceptance into a Registered Nursing academic program. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing within the US.Candidates must be in good standing with the accredited school of nursing.Current student in first or second semester of a Degree Nursing Program.Required SkillsCertifications:BLS from American Heart Associations required on hire. If BLS is not with AHA, new hire will have 30 days to obtain it. (If ACLS is current, BLS is not required).Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
