NURSE INSTRUCTOR PD 23524

Plans, develops, delivers and evaluates orientation programs for all newly appointed nursing staff.

Plans, develops, develops and evaluates orientation programs and/or supplemental training programs for ancillary nursing personnel.

Provides educational guidance and develops special programs and learning activities for individuals and groups of employees selected for expanded roles, additional responsibilities, special projects, new programs, etc.

Develops and provides continuing education programs and staff development programs to assist nursing personnel to acquire, maintain and/or increase knowledge and competence in fulfilling the expectations of their role.

Assists nursing personnel in adapting to changes in the organization and needs of the patient population.

Maintains level of educational offerings to ensure attainment of requirement for licensed and non-licensed hospital employees

Participates in activities which contribute to the organization and performance of the Education Department (i.e., formulates guidelines, policies, participates on committees.)

Provides direct nursing care, when necessary, to patients in area of expertise as part of conducting training for orientees.

Effectively and appropriately applies and teaches principles of infection control and safety.

Effectively utilizes the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.

Maintains accurate and current educational records, assuring that appropriate items are forwarded to Human Resources for inclusion in personnel files.

Keeps up-to-date with current trends pertinent to area of assignment.

Serves as resource for clinical and management information models.

Participates in Q.A. committee and nursing committees.

BASIC COMPETENCIES

Education/Licensure:      

Bachelors Degree in Nursing or related field. Current NJ licensure as RN required. BLS certification ACLS and IV certification (Acute care)Experience:   Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience. Teaching experience preferred.Skills:   Knowledge of principles of teaching the adult learner. Clinical nursing skills and expertise. Basic computer skills (Word Processing, Windows>95). Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations. Good organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
