Nurse Manager, RN

SUMMARY

The RN Nurse Manager manages an assigned nursing unit, including staff and residents; ensuring 24-hour care is delivered per facility standards to assist residents in achieving and maintaining their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform nursing unit responsibilities, including leadership and management of nursing staff.*Supervise and mentor all unit staff, including RNs, LPNs, NARs, TMAs, interdisciplinary team, visitors, residents and families. *Maintain comprehensive documentation and reports per policy and regulation. *Facilitate care conference meetings and participate in IDT (Interdisciplinary Team) meetings as needed. *Practice conflict resolution between residents, staff, families, community members, and other disciplines (i.e., Hospice, Rehabilitation Therapy, doctors, nurse practitioners, etc.). *Serve as a clinical resource to staff regarding nursing care of residents. Provide in-service education to staff as requested. *Supervise, organize and provide work direction to unit staff. Participate in Performance Evaluations of unit staff, as requested by immediate supervisor. *Provide direct care to residents under individual plans of care, administering care and medications per doctor’s orders as needed. *Act as an advocate to maintain resident’s privacy and dignity during cares.  *Monitor resident vitals, completing resident assessments, as needed. Ensure communication of any identified changes to physician and family members. *Ensure supervision of dining room activities, assisting residents with eating as needed. Ensure there is a smooth transition throughout the admission process. *  Ensure the comprehensive assessment of residents with acute changes of condition, and attend resident Care Conferences as needed.Serve as a clinical resource to staff regarding nursing care of residents. Provide in-service education as requested.Ensure the Maintainenance and completion all required documentation and charting on the computer or on forms in an accurate and timely manner according to policies and procedures. *Transcribe Physician’s Orders as per facility protocol and forward necessary information to other departments. *Initial Medication Administration Record (MAR) after medication is administered per facility policy and procedure, accurately documenting refusals for medication on back of MAR. *Support various other Nursing responsibilities as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education, Experience and Credentials

Current licensure in the State of Minnesota as an RN and maintain licensure. Minimum two years of progressively responsible nursing experience required.Current PR certification required and must maintain certification.Experience in the long-term care setting preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

Flexible and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.Display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.Possess effective problem solving skills.Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, HRIS, and other applications.  Must be skilled in database management and record keeping.Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization in accordance with our PROUD standards.Able to understand and follow facility and department safety and emergency procedures.Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization and client information in accordance to HIPAA regulations and corporate compliance standards, including appropriate access of data housed within the Information Technology infrastructure. 

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB

Incumbent must be able to:

Perform medium work, lifting up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.Push/pull people and equipment up to 50 pounds a distance of several feet.Twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach frequently in the performance of client assistance responsibilities.Effectively communicate, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.Able to effectively use office equipment to review and create information.Work at a desk for extended periods and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer. Frequently stand and walk to move around office/building repeatedly throughout the day.Able to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime, nights and weekends as required including attending events/meetings as needed.

 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Use thermometer, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, wheelchair, patient lifts, and related medical equipment.Use telephone, computer and standard office equipment. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is indoors. The incumbent must be flexible about switching positions quickly in order to respond to the needs of residents, in responding to emergencies.   May be at risk of exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material.
