NURSE MANAGER II CARDIOVASCULAR SERVICES

Job Overview:

This position has 24-hour accountability for their area of responsibility.  This accountability encompasses: patient care outcomes, service excellence, human resource issues, fiscal management, quality improvement compliance, and communication. Emphasis should be placed on creating a positive environment that fosters professional growth and retention.  This environment is supported by this position acting as a role model and as a mentor and coach to the staff.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in nursing
Certification within specialty area within two years of assuming position. 
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)
Registered Nurse
Membership in related professional organization preferred.
5-7 years' experience Management in Nursing in a related field
2-3 years' experience Clinical in Nursing 

Job Responsibilities:

Managed Quality & Patient Safety at both Cath labs: Identifies key indicators and implements performance improvement measures related to quality, safety, nursing practice, customer needs and expectations. Evaluates internal and external customer satisfaction using data and measurement tools. Responds to the data with effective plans and strategies. Participates in the development of Nursing Quality, Safety & Service Plan and associated activities. Facilitates the dissemination of research findings and integration of evidence-based guidelines and practices. Identifies areas of clinical and administrative inquiry suitable for nurse researchers. Role models Service Excellence values and creates an environment where staff is empowered to achieve Service Excellence goals.
Retention Risk Assessment for both Cath labs:  Actively solicits staff for concerns and potential retention problems.  Works to assist in retention of new employees, especially new graduate nurses.  Demonstrates availability, approachability and high visibility. Varies time on unit to keep touch with all shifts.  Encourages completion of exit interviews. Participates in analysis of information.
Staff Recruitment and Selection for both Cath Labs: Assesses departmental staffing needs to determine recruitment priorities. Partners with HR in recruiting for the organization. Networks internally and externally to enhance candidate pool.  Interviews and assesses candidates utilizing various tools and follows the established hiring process to assure an effective and efficient staff selection.  Assures an individualized plan for new employee orientation. Works with unit-based educator and PNR coordinators to ensure orientation meets needs of staff.
Customizing Staff Development for all TriHealth Cath Labs, Electrophysiology Labs and Pre/Post areas.   Identifies staff educational needs and facilitates opportunities for staff development in collaboration with nurse educators.  Monitors staff performance and compliance with policies and procedures to identify and address performance improvement opportunities. Through peer review and performance appraisal processes, develops plans to help staff meet personal career goals.  Empowers staff to accept responsibility, which enhances autonomy, learning, knowledge and skill development.
Enhancing Unit Communication for all TriHealth Cath Labs, Electrophysiology Labs and Pre/Post areas.  Solicits interactive, varied communication to provide staff the opportunity to give feedback or make suggestions for unit or organizational-level initiatives. Develops effective and collegial relationships with key physicians.  Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers and supporting departments.  Discusses key departmental issues and concerns with director.  Communicates and promotes organizational goals and initiatives.
Unit Leadership for all TriHealth Cath Labs, Electrophysiology Labs and Pre/Post areas.   Collaborate with staff to develop and reach performance goals supporting strategic nursing and unit-specific goals and activities. Develop leaders among staff, especially the Shared Leadership Committee.  Fosters mutual respect and trust among all team members. Encourages enculturation of our Serve Model and Always behaviors.   Adheres to the TriHealth “Code of Ethical Business and Professional Behavior”.  Assures a process to identify and address ethical issues within nursing.  Demonstrates stewardship through successful management of fiscal responsibilities, which includes the establishing, maintaining, and meeting department budgets.  Provides frequent informal feedback, and comprehensive annual performance appraisals. Facilitates peer review feedback.  Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory standards and assures departmental compliance (e.g. TJC, OSHA, EPA).  Facilitates the process for implementation of new services and technologies.  Engages in self-assessment of role accountabilities on a regular basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional and practice development.
