Overview The RN Clinical Navigator is responsible for providing nursing care to patients and coordinating pre-surgical and post-surgical care for clinic patients who are identified for elective surgery. The RN Clinical Navigator will provide interdisciplinary care to ensure patients have all the necessary information and requirements related to their surgery. The RN Clinical Navigator will perform all staff nurse functions and utilize all standards of care. The RN Clinical Navigator will ensure all requirements are obtained prior to the surgery date, as well as assess and triage post-operative patients. These requirements include, but are not limited to: communicating with patients regarding their upcoming surgery; providing education on procedures and pre-surgical expectations; following up with patients as required; providing patient-centered interventions; ensuring all labs are ordered and completed; following up on surgical clearances; serving as the primary liaison with patients concerning their pre-operative needs and concerns; monitoring the entire patient surgical navigation process; providing direct patient care when directed by clinical supervisor; performing post-op assessments; and participating in all patient experience improvement initiatives. The RN Clinical Navigator maintains accountability and responsibility for their patients, even though some tasks may be delegated to MA�s, Surgical Coordinators, Surgical Techs, etc. Traveling to different clinic sites may be required. Qualifications Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Specific course work: BSN from an accredited school of nursing Preferred Education: N/A Required Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as RN in Florida or valid licensure in one of the states under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). If licensed under the eNLC, must obtain FL RN licensure within 90 days of becoming a Florida resident. BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Professional Certification ACLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required Experience: Over five (5) years Acute Care, Ambulatory Care and/or Care Coordination Preferred Experience: Combination of at least six (6) years of Acute Care (progressive and/or ICU) and perioperative experience preferred. Necessary Skills: 1. Ability to provide support to all members of the care team and communicate effectively 2. Good verbal and written communication skills. 3. Excellent organizational and time management skills with attention to detail 4. Experience with conflict resolution and negotiation strategies. 5. Ability to use Excel, Word, and Power Point computer applications. 6. Ability to triage patient care needs and delegate appropriately 7. Must be able to prioritize and be highly organized 8. Adheres to hospital and Florida Nurse Practice Act guidelines in providing patient care. 9. Familiarity with medical and surgical equipment used in the patient care environment 10. Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic medical record 11. Ability to function independently 12. Demonstrates critical thinking skills
