The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner is involved in direct patient care and pediatric research and assists with day-to-day coordination of pediatric clinical and research programs.

Responsibilities Collaborating with clinical team and research team in the implementation and evaluation of programs and processes to provide necessary patient care, the effective use of resources, and a high level of service and quality that are measurable.Participates in the development and implementation of care and performance standards to ensure that identified patient care needs and regulatory requirements are met and/or exceeded.Provides care that is age specific and focuses on the management of diabetes and endocrine disorders, risk identification & reduction, and education.Participates and helps in the coordination of pediatric clinical, educational, and research activities.Participates in pediatric clinical research activities, maintaining accreditation in human subject research, FCOI, GCP and HIPAA requirementsComplies with nursing service standards of practice and policies of Pediatrics and Clinical Research and complies with State and Federal Regulations.  Attends regularly scheduled clinical and research staff meetings.Assists  in the orientation and training of new employeesMaintains professional development to ensure proper job performance, quality care, and service.Completes required annual educational requirements.Maintains professional certification in specialty area and stays current in best practices and current literature.Identifies own learning needs and takes steps to address opportunities for improvement.Maintains membership in professional organizations relevant to role including but not limited to ADA, AADE, local DEEM chapter, MONE

 

Safety:

Actively participates in Clinic/Center safety programs and initiatives including annual safety and review of emergency proceduresAdheres to state (DPH), federal (OSHA), Clinic, and Center safety guidelines.Demonstrates behaviors that promote patient, visitor, and employee safetyMaintains a safe work environment within the unit/area.

 

Qualifications MSN with ability to assume responsibility for delivery of care in the clinical setting and overseeing pediatric multidisciplinary care deliveryPossess a minimum of two years’ experience working as a nurse practitionerExperience in diabetes care, pediatric diabetes care or endocrine nursing preferred, including training as a family nurse practitionerExperience in ambulatory care setting preferredExperience in clinical research preferredCurrent license, or eligibility, to practice as a nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the Board of Registration in Nursing; Pediatrics or Family Practitioner CertificationBLS certificationCertified as Diabetes Educator by the American Association of Diabetes Educators or Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management (or in progress) or plans to obtain certificationValid DEA and MCS numbers, or eligibility, for prescription writing practicesDemonstrated advanced interpersonal skillsEstablishes & maintains effective 2-way communication with staffHas obtained or is eligible to obtain provider numbers from insurance carriers that currently contract nurse practitioners (Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield etc.)
