Job Overview:

Peds Hematology - Oncology APN. Combined inpatient/outpatient. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods referring questionable situations to physicians. The NP provides primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients. In addition, the NP is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. Damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.

Qualifications:

Current New Jersey Registered Nurse License,Current New Jersey Advanced Practiced Nursing LicenseMaster s degree in pediatric or family nursing with prescriptive privileges2+ years of related clinical experience preferred acute care nursingRelated national NP certificationBLS certificationPALS certificationAPHON chemotherapy certifiedCPHON preferred

Essential Functions:

Performing daily rounds and follow-up on patients admitted to the pediatric hematology oncology service in conjunction with collaborating physiciansAssessing the health status of patients by means of comprehensive health history and physical examinationOrdering laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic studies per treatment protocols and differentiating between normal abnormal findings and altering the plan of care according to collaborative practice agreementPrescribing medications including chemotherapy drugs, medications for sickle cell disease and other complex hematological disorders, supportive care medications, medical devices, and other therapeutics within NJ and Federal scope of practice law for nurse practitionersProviding education to pediatric hematology-oncology patients and their families regarding the treatment planUsing evidence based guidelines to advise and support appropriate practice changes for the pediatric hematology oncology patient populationWorking collaboratively with nursing and pharmacy leadership to ensure timely communication of chemotherapy treatment plan and infusion scheduleDeveloping and revising nursing standards and patient and family education materials as relevant to area of practiceAdvocating for patients/families and supporting patients rightsPerforming all other duties as assigned
