Job Summary
The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions within the acute care hospital setting and outpatient setting to work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The nurse practitioner or physician assistant functions are primarily managing the care of acute and complex chronically ill patients.
Responsibilities
The nurse practitioner or physician assistant is an integral member of a service aligned team (hospital cardiology consultations, as well as, pre and post cardiac catheterization, stress testing, as well as the STEMI team). The nurse practitioner or physician assistant manages the day to day patient care from admission history and physicals to discharge and performs consultations as needed.The nurse practitioner or physician assistant will work as part of the health care team with internal medicine residents and other APPs on the cardiology consult service with the cardiology and cardiology interventionalist attending.In some instances, the nurse practitioner or physician assistant may have responsibilities for this same patient population as they return for follow up in the outpatient setting (i.e. Chest pain clinic and hypertension clinic, post procedures and wound checks).The nurse practitioner or physician assistant has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and has a responsibility for providing an environment of safe quality care. The nurse practitioner or physician assistant performs and documents a complete history and physical, orders and collects data, orders/manages supporting diagnostic tests when indicated.The nurse practitioner or physician assistant formulates differential diagnoses and orders appropriate interventions and medications, identifies expected outcomes and formulates and documents a plan of care. Provides patient teaching and patient resources.The nurse practitioner or physician assistant demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.RequirementsLicensure/Certification/Registration:
Required Credential(s):
• Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Maryland Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Maryland Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
Preferred Credential(s):
• Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
Education:
• Master's degree of Nursing required.
