The Nurse Practitioner, Cardiology is responsible for providing care in an advanced practice nursing role, under approved protocols and in accordance with the appropriate scope of practice. Provides cardiovascular medical management in an ambulatory clinic setting including general and preventative care, under supervision. Conducts physical examinations and orders diagnostic testing prescribes medications/treatment for cardiovascular diseases. Responsible for performing tests such as pharmacological, exercise nuclear stress and echo stress test, etc.
GENERAL DUTIES
Facilitates and maintains a safe environment for patients and others:
Performs the priority technical skills/procedures required by the area/department/assignment safely and by maintaining compliance.Performs selected invasive/non-invasive cardiovascular procedures and testing for diagnostic reasons within scope of practice and scope of validated competence.Utilizes the nursing process to deliver patient care:
Assesses the physical condition of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories. Identifies health and medical risk factors.Formulates the plan of care and prognosis based on patient’s condition. Plans appropriate care, formulates treatment plan, and evaluates patient’s response to that care under the direction of the Medical Director.Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical healthcare needs.Performs selected cardiovascular procedures for diagnostic studies within scope of practice and scope of validated competence.Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to identify actions to improve patient care:
Collaborates with physicians and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Acts as a liaison and effectively interacts with physicians and staff.Facilitates continuity of care:
Initiates and/or maintains interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care of patients.Provides counsel to patients, families, and significant others about cardiovascular health, illness and promotes maintenance.Documents consistent with established guidelines.Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of the care provided.Leadership:
Delegates to other team members to accomplish direct patient care or support activities.EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred: Adult Cardiology experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of APRN procedures specific to the role: ECG interpretation, ECHO interpretation.Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.Effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.WORK SHIFT:
