Nurse Practitioner CRMG

Job Summary:

Working under the supervision of the physicians in the department and receiving general direction from the Clinical Service Leader, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide clinical care to the patients admitted to the hospital. The NP is assigned to a particular unit or units. The NP will utilize advanced clinical skills and knowledge to assess patients and manage all aspects of care, including invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. He/she will communicate clinical issues to the attending physician, write orders according to standardized procedures/protocols, coordinate and schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and facilitate arrangements for discharge with the Care Management department. Continuity of care will be maintained from admission to discharge except with patients requiring transfer to intensive care management. The NP will interact with key ancillary departments such as pharmacy, radiology, and clinical laboratory to coordinate and schedule services. The NP will work collaboratively with all members of the service to ensure that continuity of care is maintained between inpatient care and referring physicians. The NP will support/educate clinical nursing staff regarding protocol goals and treatment strategies.

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: Must have completed an approved training program specifically designed to prepare nurses as adult or geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioners, and which is accredited or has been approved by the Joint Board of Medicine and Nursing.

Nurse Practitioner must submit evidence of eligibility for certification by one or more of the following national certifying boards.

American Academy of Nurse Practitioners American Nurses Credentialing Center

Nurse Practitioner must provide evidence of current Virginia Nurse Practitioner License.

Nurse Practitioner must provide evidence of prescriptive privileges as issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia A copy of the supervising physician / NP agreement submitted to the state for prescriptive authority must be kept on file in the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center Staff Office.

A protocol must be established and the Nurse Practitioner must work within that protocol. The protocols are to be signed by each Nurse Practitioner and the supervising Physician.

Experience: At least 3 years of hospital based Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be a licensed Nurse Practitioner, licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of nursing respectively. Individuals must hold ACLS certification. NPs must maintain AANP or ANCC certification.
