Job Description
University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Certified Physician Assistant to join University of Minnesota’s Colon and Rectal Surgery team to work with our Colon and Rectal team both in our Edina and UofMN locations.
Our Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are each an integral part of our patient care model in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
The successful candidate will work as part of our care team providing coordinated multi-professional care to our patients. Our NP/PAs are a crucial part of our team and function at the top of their license within this model. The NP/PA will practice in a split inpatient/outpatient role caring for adult patients with colon and rectal disease processes. In this role you will:
Evaluate and treat patients for acute and chronic conditions, performing hospital admissions, consults, daily rounding, OR first assist, discharge planning and follow up care providing continuity throughout the care continuum.Respond to urgent or emergent colorectal issues to assist and triage next stepsIndependently perform procedures (after training), such as endoscopy, hemorrhoid banding, incision and drainage of perianal and pilonidal abscess, excision of thrombosed hemorrhoids, and fulguration of condyloma.Work within a highly functional and collaborative groupEducate patients and/or families about their conditions including preventative care, expectations for the operative course, and ongoing instructing during the pre-surgical and surgical follow-up course.Partner with clinic and hospital teams in providing ongoing process improvement in quality of care, and avoidance of nosocomial or surgical site infections including strategies to decrease length of stay and readmission rates on the inpatient service.This position will start as a Monday-Friday role and will likely include weekend coverage in the future.We’re Looking For a PA or NP Who Is:
A graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or formal Adult Nurse Practitioner training program.
Eligible or is certified through NCCPA, ANCC or AANP.
Licensed or eligible to acquire a license through the MN Board of Medical Practice (PAs) or MN APRN license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Nursing (NPs).
Able to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.
What Could Set You Apart?
Previous experience with colorectal patients
First Assist or procedural experience
BLS and ACLS certification. If not current will have 3-4 months to become certified from date of hire.
