Nurse Practitioner Pediatric

Summary:

The Pediatric Sedation/ PICC Service Nurse Practitioner (NP) is accountable to facilitate a safe quality sedation and/or vascular access experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. The NP will be responsible to the Medical Director of the Pediatric Sedation/PICC Service and responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients requiring sedation and vascular access services. The NP may also act as an educator consultant and liaison to healthcare providers requesting sedation and/or vascular access services. caring for the patients across the care continuum.

 

Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge of pediatrics.

Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the Sedation team to optimize safe sedation delivery and vascular access as well as timely completion of required tests and procedures.

Provides leadership in the development validation implementation and evaluation of standards policies procedures and critical paths to support the delivery of safe pediatric sedation and vascular access services.

Assists the Sedation team to achieve mutually agreed upon Sedation goals by providing necessary support education and encouragement.

Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.

Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.

Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.

Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.

Annually completes mandatory safety infection control BLS and ACLS/PALS.

Prescriptive privileges per licensure.

 

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE

Masters of Science Degree Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required.

Baccalaureate in Nursing

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Demonstratesknowledgeand skills necessary to provide care to pediatric patients with consideration of human development stages and cultural patterns across the spectrum of pediatric health and disease.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years related experience as RN in acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years experience as a nurse practitioner. Preference for peri-procedural or critical care areas.

WORKENVIRONMENTANDPHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.
