JOB SUMMARY

The acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP) renders medical care to acutely ill patients within the hospital setting. The ACNP is responsible for assessment of the patients and, in conjunction with the physician,provides medical and nursing care for each identified patient. The nursing process will be utilized (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and teaching) in providing care. Demonstrate knowledgeand skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Interpretation of information is required to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
