Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant | Women's Health - Medical Plaza | Day | Full-Time
Overview Summary Provide general medical care and treatment to patients in accordance with collaborative guidelines, collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services. The successful applicant will primarily be assigned to one of three possible units: Triage, Antepartum (High Risk Hospitalizations), or Mother/Baby Unit (MBU), but will be expected to cross-train and cross-cover as needed. Perform physical examinations and/or diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as well as orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests. Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient’s record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Formulate comprehensive health management plans for patients in collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals. Prescribe and/or recommends medications and treatments to patients. Provide physician and pharmacist referrals to patients in need of further medical care and services. Participate in meetings, functions, events, and committees, as well as in a team of interdisciplinary health care providers. Provide education and instruction to residents and students. Contribute to the development, implementation, and expansion of programs and initiatives. Serve as the first call of non-emergent nursing requests. When assigned Triage duties: Conduct initial assessments and place orders. Complete H&Ps and orders for scheduled procedures (inductions, cesareans, and cerclages). Perform pregnancy episode intakes for non-UF patients (~8%). Monitor and interpret fetal tracings. Facilitate discharges to optimize length of stay. Enhance PACU throughput. When assigned Antepartum duties: Round with the clinical team on high-risk patients. Facilitate orders and follow-up. Monitor and interpret fetal tracings. Coordinate care (e.g., transport, social work). Facilitate and coordinate discharges. Complete summary communications back to referring clinicians. When assigned MBU duties: Conduct postpartum rounds for identified patients (e.g., lower risk). Enhance lactation support for Baby Friendly (IBCLC/Counselor). Provide patient education. Conduct required risk assessments. Ensure timely discharge orders and follow up on contingency discharge orders. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant. Credentialing: Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current and clear license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida. BLS is required.
