Summary Located in the Division of Public Health, Branch of Public Health Nursing, at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. This position will serve as the Community Health Nurse for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), providing comprehensive nursing services to individuals and families, providing case management and improve process of treatment for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Provides case management for patients with positive STI results and their close contacts, reviews laboratory results, monitors for adverse reactions to medications and worsening symptoms and makes appropriate referrals to the managing physician and/or other health departments or facilities as indicated. Provides treatment for positive STIs and their partners as indicated at both office and field visits. Functions within the parameters of standing orders and interpreting laboratory tests in clinic and community settings, and within service unit/department policies and protocols. Conducts field contact investigations for STI outbreaks, and collaborates with the local Health Departments, Tribal Health Programs, Tribal Agency, State Department(s) of Health, and CDC as indicated. Plans, implements, and provides health education to individuals and groups regarding communicable diseases. Runs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual STI surveillance data and completes reports with visualizations. Reviews all service unit testing for HIV, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Trichomonas. Determine number of tests for each disease, number of new positives, number of completed treatment, and number of untreated. Maintains a database of STI cases and their contacts for surveillance and follow-up activities. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; - OR - At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) is required. The essentials of Baccalaureate education for professional nursing practice emphasizes fundamental concepts for public health nursing practice. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks. Examples include: Provides case management for positive STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) cases and their close contacts, reviews laboratory results, and enters a STI consult in EHR. Checks for STI treatment history in New Mexico or Arizona PRISM and the Navajo Nation master file. Informs the Infectious Disease provider by notification in EHR note to review and stage Syphilis case & determine treatment plan. Provides treatment for positive STIs and their partners as indicated at the office or in the field. Conducts field contact investigations for STI outbreaks and collaborates with the local state health department, tribal programs, NMDOH, and CDC as indicated. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
