Nurse Tech Neuro ICU
About this unit:

The Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital. The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center.  We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. This team has worked to develop a culture of collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning. Nurses stay because they love the people they work with and in turn, have a very low turnover rate.​

Scope of work

Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.

Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient within our clinics alongside RN’s/Providers.  Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider.  Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.  

Orientation

Orientation for our ICU's begins in cohorts once per month and will start out with 3 weekday classes from 8am-4:30pm during week 1. It will also include 2 additional classes within the first month, along with several hands on training shifts for 8-11 weeks.

Qualifications 

Required High School Diploma or equivalentAHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days Experience in direct patient care is preferred
