Nursing Administrator | Full Time
Overview The Administrator of Nursing is responsible for the effective operations of their nursing service line in a manner that ensures patient safety, meets or exceeds national quality standards, and is responsive to the needs of the patients and their families. The Administrator is responsible for the development, communication and implementation of a strategic plan to grow the program in breadth, and depth of services and optimization of current operations. Responsibilities Leads and directs the service line creating a culture of high clinical and professional standards, family centered care and service to internal and external customers. Provides overall direction and leadership for the provision of safe, effective and cost efficient patient care within the service line. Accountable for departmental outcomes and 24-hour operations of the designated care divisions and service line. Advocates for patients and families. Promotes patient engagement and ensure a consistently outstanding experience for patients. Ensures practice that is ethical and in accordance with current practice standards. Partners with physicians, nursing, other clinicians, and families to create a clear vision for the service line. Establishes the service line tactical and strategic vision and goals in collaboration with Administration, Medical Staff and the multidisciplinary clinical care team. Develops a strategic plan that clarifies steps for implementing the vision, Communicates the vision to internal and external constituents. Coordinates action plans and outcomes monitoring consistent with the overall strategic goals and imperatives. Applies clinical and operational management skills to meet the established quality, patient satisfaction, and financial/operational goals of the department. Promotes and builds strong professional and collegial relationships with Medical Staff, ancillary departments, and other internal and external partners. Provides leadership by building consensus and managing successful programs that are customer-focused. Works in collaboration with medical staff and hospital leadership to enhance clinical and service performance. Coordinates activities among administrators, managers and physician leadership to assure optimal access and service for patients and providers and positive working relationships across the organization. Leads interdisciplinary teams to achieve service line and organizational objectives. Leads, coaches and mentors staff. Creates a positive environment where employees can excel in the delivery of exceptional patient care and fosters employee participation, satisfaction and organizational commitment. Promotes the professional development of staff. Builds a learning environment that enables employees to realize their highest potential. Directs personnel management of the service line consistent with Nursing Services and Hospital philosophy, goals and policy. Responsible for hiring and management of service line staff. Facilitates orientation of new employees regarding clinical components of the department. Facilitates formal and informal learning experiences for staff through identification of staff clinical needs. Conducts clinical department meetings and other communication means to disseminate information, discuss clinical plans, and outline new clinical goals and objectives. Leads and directs patient care. Observes and coaches staff in performance of clinical duties and interpersonal interactions. Monitors safety of care including the administration of prescribed medication. Monitors clinical documentation in the medical records to ensure completeness and accuracy and compliance with hospital and program standards. Monitors the nursing process utilization, ensuring timely completion of the nursing assessment and care plans as well as appropriateness of content. Ensures completion of patient’s multidisciplinary treatment plans. Directs the operational management of the service line to ensure high quality, cost effective patient care service and a safe and efficient work environment. Ensures appropriate staffing for patient needs on a daily basis. Schedules staff based on patient acuity and defined staffing patterns. Monitors multidisciplinary team scope of practice, productivity of staff, use of time and the amount of work assigned. Ensures that the productivity and staff work support the overall operational goals of the department. Ensures the quality of patient care through continuous quality improvement activities. Manages and improves service line activity along key performance metrics for related clinical subspecialties including volume growth, patient satisfaction, access, quality measures, service line profitability, and staff and physician engagement scores. Continually evaluates the quality of nursing and multidisciplinary care delivered within the critical care service line. Monitors and reports outcomes of clinical and patient safety measures. Assumes responsibility for infection control monitoring and evaluation for department. Ensures the development, as well as ongoing review and consistent application of policies and procedures in compliance with hospital, state, federal, Joint Commission and all other applicable regulatory requirements. Leads and directs the financial management of the Service Line to ensure desired fiscal status while providing optimum clinical service. Develops departmental staffing, revenue and expense budgets and assumes direct responsibility for daily monitoring of labor and non-labor resources including responding to changes in the department business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals. Innovates to develop and translate strategy and new business opportunities into operational reality. Coordinates activities of department with related activities of other departments to ensure efficiency and economy. Reviews financial data related to each admission and assures initial documentation is completed. Leads business plan development process for new programs and services. Completes monitoring and prepares reports for leadership team and medical staff related to financial metrics on all aspects of the service line. Qualifications Required education: Bachelors in nursing Required experience: 3 years nursing management 3 years in specific service line (ED, Obs, BHU, Nursing Float/Patient Care Logistics)
