PURPOSE of POSITION: To establish, maintain and oversee standards of clinical performance for nursing and ancillary staff in the Maternal Child Pavilion at Brockton Hospital. Participate and/or lead quality initiatives as they relate to patient care and patient satisfaction. Responsible for ensuring that appropriate staffing levels are in place in accordance with approved benchmarks. This individual is responsible for promoting a safe environment for employees, patients and providers in the Maternal Child Pavilion.
INDEPENDENT ACTION: Has the ability to make independent judgments within the parameters of department and organizational policies, guidelines and established procedures. Has the ability to participate in the development of strategies and objectives in accordance with the mission and goals defined by the Senior Leadership Team at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital Has the ability to demonstrate initiative in accomplishing the primary responsibilities of this position with little direct supervision. Manage using Lean principles and processes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: The Director is responsible for the coordination and delivery of nursing care in the maternal Child Unit. Provides clinical oversight and maintains standards for the care of maternity and newborn patients at Signature Healthcare. This individual is responsible for efforts that ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory bodies.
Responsibilities:

Participate in planning, budgeting, policy making, and decision making related to clinical operations involving nursing staff and ancillary staff members in the Maternal Child Pavilion. Ensures that nursing aspects related to risk management, reimbursement, financial management, and other administrative functions are incorporated into operational systems. Monitors outcomes, budget results, patient satisfaction surveys, and other indicators of nursing performance. Makes sure the performance and productivity of all staff is evaluated on a regular basis. Advises on appropriate corrective actions and development opportunities. Ensure competencies are reviewed regularly. Stays current with state, federal and payer regulations/requirements and updates professional standards for nursing. Select and help train qualified medical personnel. Contribute to on-going education of nursing staff. Oversee clarification of and ongoing assessment of clinical competencies for staff in assigned areas. Ensure that staff is well versed in regulations dealing with patient confidentially and HIPPA.Establish and maintain nursing procedures and policies. Ensure staff are trained and understand policies and procedures. Ensure coordination and cooperation with other departments. Works collaboratively with the Chief of Obstetrics and the Chief of Pediatrics to develops quality goals for the program. Participate as an active member or liaison to Signature Committees, as appropriate. (Quality committee, compliance committee, Infection Control, Nursing Leadership, Joint Commission Steering Committee, Administrative Policy Committee, etc.) Works with Nursing Leadership to ensure proper staffing levels and appropriate skills of staff in all locations. Oversee new hire and annual competency reviews of all nursing staff. Ensure proper training programs and processes are in place. Supports efforts to ensure that Lean practices are in place in all sites. (Balanced score cards, daily huddles, problem solving, suggestion system, planning, etc.) Be an active contributor to SHC Lean suggestion system. Participate in problem solving process using Lean problem-solving methodology. Provide leadership from nursing perspective and contribute to all initiatives especially those related to the Culture of Safety Ensure all staff are educated and understand clinical policies and practices. Oversee the clinical activities of the nursing staff from a quality and regulatory standpoint including med admin. Communicates effectively and is seen as a role model for other staff. Actively participates in efforts to promote Relationship Based Care. Other duties as assigned
Education: BS in nursing required. MS in nursing or Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration preferred. Experience (Type & Length): Five years of nursing leadership experience is required. Demonstrates clinical competence and evidence of leadership and management skills. Exposure to Lean methodology is a plus. Strong managerial and organizational skills required. Certification/Licensure: Must have current license to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts Software/Hardware: Experience with MS Office and Meditech. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, and influence those to whom there is no direct reporting relationship. Strong written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to present to groups effectively Other: Must embrace and work within the principles of our core management system which is based on Lean/Operational Excellence combined with our Culture of Safety.
