Nursing Professional Development Specialist – Medicine/Geriatrics
Description

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist is a registered nurse whose practice is in nursing education and who facilitates lifelong learning for nursing staff in the UCLA Health System. The NPD Specialist for Medicine / Geriatrics develops, implements, evaluates, and revises programs of orientation, in-service training, workshops, and continuing education based on assessed needs; provides direct services and/or consultation to the design, presentation, and evaluation of educational offerings. Within each of these role functions, the NPD Specialist acts as a role model, change agent, advocate for nursing practice, and expert in use of educational methods.

Generic Scope: Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, procedures, processes, and resources.  Functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Custom Scope: Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center. Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource. Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline. Leads or overseas the implementation of new programs.

Environment: will be healthcare – hospital, clinical, classroom settings or similar environment as the role requires.

Salary Range: $124,600 to $289,400 Annually (budget = $135,720 – $197,775 depending on paid professional experience)
