Nursing Technician
Position Summary                                                                                                                                                                                        

The Nursing Technician performs patient care and non-patient care functions within their scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Duties include but are not limited to: ADL’s, vital signs, I&O, performing EKGs, documentation of vital signs and I & O, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, assisting with meals, errands, transporting of patients, medications or specimens, ambulating of patients, urinary drainage care (indwelling, external and suprapubic), assists with colostomy care, applies binders, weighs patients, assists health care providers with procedures and physical exams, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:                                                                                                            Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Performs tasks listed in job summary according to policy and procedure. Integrates patient’s rights into work practice. Utilizes current methods of infection control. Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit based issues. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team. Completes competency requirements. Attends mandatory inservices. Attends staff meetings as required/ requested. Utilizes cost containment practices. Adheres to all WPHC policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physical. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements                                                                                                                                                        High School Diploma/Equivalency Previous experience in hospital or with patient care preferred Successful completion of the Nursing Technician Orientation As of April 1st 2017, BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all Nursing  Technicians. Nursing Technicians hired before 4/1/17 must receive the BLS certification by 4/30/18. Nursing Technicians hired on or after 4/1/17, must have their BLS upon hire or obtain the certification during the Nursing Technician Orientation. Nursing technicians that will be trained to read the monitors require the 4 day EKG class Core Competencies                                                                                                                                                                                      Excellent Communication Skills (written & verbal) Teamwork Adaptability Strong Problem Solving, Judgment & Decision Making Skills Stress Tolerance Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment                                                                                                              May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Must be able to move about the department and hospital constantly while attending to needs of patients, visitors and staff. Requires continuous communication with patients, staff and visitors of all educational levels. Requires frequent use of computers and other office equipment. Required to move objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum assist of one (1) or assistive device/equipment per White Plains Hospital Safe Patient Handling Policy. Must be able to rapidly assess and respond to situational needs of patients, staff and visitors. Must be able to adapt to a high stress environment with frequent interruptions.

Salary Range: $42,880.30 - $64,320.56
