Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a professional Nutrition Educator position with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program for the Florida Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier). This position is in Immokalee and provides WIC eligibility assessment and nutritional education/counseling to WIC clients consistent with State and Federal (DHM 150-24) regulations. Expected to comply with all WIC and Department of Health policies, operating procedures, and directives, including information, materials, and equipment security. Contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and processes improvements and participation in performance management committees, councils, and/or workgroups. Continuously demonstrates the Department’s ICARE values. This position reports to the Public Health Nutrition Consultant.
Provides nutrition education (individual and group), and counseling to all client types except the medically high-risk care plan development/initial counseling (follow up may be provided if specified for the individual client). Nutrition counseling/education provided is pertinent to the clients assessed nutrition problems.
Assesses all nutrition problems presented by each client counseled and assigns correct WIC nutrition risk codes and appropriate food packages.
Documents assessment, counseling provided, client established goals and food package assigned in the FL-WiSE computer system. Prepares individualized outcome-oriented nutrition plan of care for all clients determined as high risk.
Provides and documents appropriate referrals including, but not limited to, the immunization program, medical referrals, family planning, smoking cessation, community food, clothing and shelter sources, and other government assistance.
Completes assigned reports/inventories monthly and submits to supervisor (for example: formula inventory, high risk report).
Accurately and promptly completes all administrative forms including computer data entry of time worked/leave in PeopleFirst and Health Management System (HMS).
Provides nutrition education and outreach to the community.
Performs anthropometrics- height, weight, and hemoglobin as needed.
Demonstrates professional growth through at least bi-annual participation in applicable seminars/in services. Attends staff meetings, in-services and/or quality improvement activities as scheduled.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Skill in use of computers, including Microsoft Office applications, and client data management applications.
+ Ability to learn FL-WiSE computer system, DOH software applications and use a calculator.
+ Ability to work at other DOH-Collier WIC locations if needed. Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
+ Ability to interact professionally and collaborate with clients, community partners and other DOH staff.
+ Ability to accurately document client records.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
+ Bachelor's or master's degree from a United States accredited university or college in nutritonal science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition is required.
+ Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
+ Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Creole preferred
+ This position will work in both our Naples and Immokalee offices.
+ Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
+ Valid American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
