The Prevention Center at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a part-time Nutrition Lab Technician to work in the Human Nutrition Lab (8 hours per week) in support of controlled feeding and other nutrition studies. The position is 100% onsite at Fred Hutch Cancer Center based in South Lake Union, Seattle.
The Prevention Center provides staffing and implementation support to investigators across the Fred Hutch, University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s Cancer Consortium. We work with a variety of dynamic, mission-oriented research teams, with wide-ranging study questions. Studies can be focused on nutrition, exercise, and quality-of-life interventions for those living with cancer, other chronic diseases, as well as the community.
This position involves food preparation, weighing, meal assembly and offsite delivery, and kitchen maintenance support for studies in the Human Nutrition Lab. The HNL Lab Tech works with Dietetic Technicians and the lab manager for controlled food production and data collection.
Responsibilities Assist with preparing and measuring of study food according to standardized recipes and individualized study protocols.Assist with organizing, labeling and distribution of study foods to study participants.Review study menus, participant files and study documents for accuracy as part of quality assurance measures. Assist in preparation and inventory of baked goods and other specialty food items for the Prevention Center study participants.Follow all prescribed procedures and best practices for sanitation and safety.Assist with cleaning and organizing in the lab kitchen and dining area.Assist with supply inventory and food procurement as needed.Utilize computer software such as Microsoft Office suite to assist nutrition lab in the documentation of study menus and feeding study protocols. Data entry and QA using specialized nutrition software (ProNutra).Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduation from High School or equivalent with interest in the sciences. Minimum of one year as Laboratory Aide or similar experience preferred.Minimum 6 months experience in food service preferred.Demonstrated ability to form respectful, productive working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.Valid Food Worker card or willingness to obtain within one month of hire (cost covered by employer).Attention to accuracy and basic math skills.A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.
The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
