Team Highlights:

The Hospitality department at Kootenai Health offers a wide range of support services to various departments, staff members and patients. Our 120-member team is made up of a variety of contributors including an executive chef, sous chefs, cooks, baristas, clinical dietitians, nutrition technicians, guest relation associates, and hospitality services associates. We offer catering services within the hospital, prepare and serve patient meals through our room service program, operate a cafe and coffee service for employees and hospital guests, stock all the units with food and paper items, and provide a high level of patient nutrition support and education by our registered dietitians.  As a member of this fast-paced and dynamic team, you are involved in offering the highest level of care regardless of the role you play. 

 

Responsibilities:

Answers the telephone to receive menu orders for patient meals using the room service software and the hospital wide order entry software to process patient meals, snacks and oral nutrition supplements according to their dietary needs and/or food allergies.  Uses allergy clarification flow chart, appropriate scripting and questioning and knowledge from training and diet classes to assure compliance to diet order and any food allergies during meal ordering process. Understands the role of dietitian in allergies and alerts dietitian to needed changes for allergies in the EMR.  Works with patients to coach them in selecting viable options when diet compliances are encountered to the initial menu item selected. Whenever possible finding a solution that leaves the patient satisfied and having necessary information to make positive choices with food selections.  Takes messages, answers questions and relays information to the supervisors and clinical dietitians using established department guidelines. Maintains all required records, reports, statistics, logs, files and other documents required. Follows up on missed meals to offer food to our patients.  Assists with guest trays and staff meals according to procedures.  Coordinates the call center and assists with registered dietitian projects.  Leads call center team meetings. Assists with development of training materials and leads training in the call center.  Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Training in Dietetics or experience in dietary office preferred. 

Working Conditions:

Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position Typical equipment used in a clinical job Exposure to extreme heat and cold for short periods of time Work in confined spaces for short periods of time
