Through this community of healers, scientists, and scholars, Rutgers is equipped as never before to transform lives. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Nutritionist III, Per Diem (Metabolic Dietary) for NJMS- Department of Pediatrics, Division of Genetics.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Provides nutrition therapy for patients with inborn errors of metabolism utilizing ongoing laboratory data, food records, and growth patterns as the basis for determining dietary recommendations. Interprets medical, laboratory and dietary parameters to calculate prescriptions for special diets and medical foods. Analyzes diets for research and clinical studies using Metabolic Pro diet analysis software. Maintains records of patients’ dietary prescriptions, analyses, growth and nutritional status, and education/counseling sessions. Participates as an interdisciplinary team member of the Metabolic Team. Provides consultative services to outside agencies and physicians for patients who are hospitalized or have special medical needs (e.g., PKU) in conjunction with the metabolic geneticist. Provides patient education (for patients of the Metabolic Clinic) on both an inpatient and outpatient service basis and develops new approaches for educating patients and families. Participates in division-based research and quality improvement projects. Assists in educating rotating nutrition, nursing, genetic counseling, medical students, and residents about diet therapy of genetic metabolic disorders. Works closely with the New Jersey Department of Health Newborn Screening Program to ensure all referred babies with abnormal newborn screening are managed appropriately.
