Job Title: NYO Anchorage Coach

General Functions:
The Native Youth Olympic (NYO) Anchorage Coach is responsible for coaching the Anchorage A and B teams, grades 7th-12th, established during the Anchorage Tryouts competition. This position will guide and teach athletes the culture of NYO Games and the skills they need to be successful.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Determine the top performer in each round of competition based on NYO criteria.Assist in keeping accurate records of each competition.Plan and lead practice sessions.Provide feedback and coaching during Senior NYO Games (3-days).Maintain practice and competition attendance.Mentor athletes to develop sportsmanship, respect for the game, cultural relevance, and proper conduct.Motivate and encourage athletes to improve performance.Maintain the equipment and facilities to ensure safe practices.Teach athletes the skills and strategies necessary to compete. Attend coaches’ meetings during Senior NYO Games.Attend NYO Try Outs and Senior NYO Games.Attend & Coach NYO Games with Anchorage A & B Team. Coordinate meal breaks for athletes during Senior NYO Games. Attend NYO Athlete Celebration. Complete registration and waiver forms for Anchorage A & B teams.Job Specifications:
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to provide clear instructions to groups of various sizes.Ability to work both independently and as a contributory team member in a positive, productive manner.Knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations for each event. Knowledge and understanding of the most recent NYO handbook. Ability to use sound judgment when interacting with staff and participants of various ages and backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure with the ability to handle numerous priorities at the same time effectively.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native/American Indian community.Minimum Core Competencies: CITC Values Respectful Leadership, Professionalism, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Solving/Critical Thinking, Communication Skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.Experience coaching Native Youth Olympics with high school aged athletes. Continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory report from a state and federal background check.Disclaimer
