POSITION SUMMARY
Investigates complaints concerning allegations of police misconduct and misconduct of City employees. Conducts investigations of all City personnel as required, and performs pre-employment background investigations for Public Safety and other personnel as required.
Department: Office of Municipal Investigations
Salary: $60,112 per year.
Union: None, this is a non-union position.

+ A current, valid Class C Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License at the time of filing application or prior to appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment. Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
+ WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience in law, legal investigations, auditing, private investigations, law enforcement intelligence, insurance claims, investigating employee conduct and/or worker's compensation claims or other related experience. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
+ EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Law Enforcement Administration, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
+ Please note on your application if you are ACT 120 certified.
+ EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is five (5) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

POSITION DUTIES
+ Investigates and evaluates complaints concerning allegations of police misconduct and/or misconduct of City employees.
+ Determines the nature of the alleged misconduct and develops an investigative plan.
+ Performs lawful investigative assignments (i.e., stakeouts, surveillance, etc.) and reporting duties in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
+ Conducts background investigations for Public Safety employees.
+ Reports all findings to the OMI Manager.
+ Maintains confidential case files.
+ Interviews complainants, witnesses and police officers to gather facts.
+ Conducts site visits and scene analyses.
+ Collects and analyzes evidence and statements.
+ Prepares written investigative reports.
+ Testifies as requested or required.
+ Performs financial reviews as necessary.
+ Attends and participates in all mandatory in-service training activities.
+ Prepares case material for review by the OMI Manager.
+ Maintains records, manually and/or by automated methods, and prepares accurate, comprehensive reports, correspondence, etc.
+ Types and operates office equipment (i.e., PC and peripheral equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, etc.).
+ Works non-traditional hours, weekends and holidays as required.
+ May be subject to various environmental conditions.
+ Protects and preserves the confidentiality of all OMI and Bureau of Police related information and investigations.
+ Performs activities and functions of related personnel and such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
