The OB/GYN supports the Bureau of Medical Services (MED) in the Directorate for Clinical Programs (CP). The incumbent provides professional medical support to a complex, highly technical, and service oriented worldwide capabilities program. The OB/GYN’s work includes providing information, education, and technical advice to the Department on reproductive health issues, including preventive care and screening, diagnosis and treatment of relevant conditions, medication management support, indirect and direct patient care, participation in programmatic planning and evaluation for reproductive health initiatives, collaboration with the Foreign Programs team on best practices in Obstetric management, and management of strategic initiatives to adapt and evolve existing practices; works collaboratively with colleagues in other sections. This position provides consultative care for patients related to the reproductive system, including prenatal, natal, and postnatal care. The incumbent may be required to travel to overseas Health Units.
Essential Functions
Advisory Role: Serving as MEDs senior advisor for primary care services on women’s health and advising the Obstetric medical evacuation team. Patient care: Consulting with medical staff domestically and overseas on care, treatment, and follow-up services for patients, including medical evacuation determinations involving obstetrical or gynecologic issues. Direct provision of patient primary care in MED DC for some patients may also occur. Provide teleconsultations for patients and medical staff overseas.Diagnosing and treating conditions: Reviewing medical records and aiding with diagnosing and recommending treatment for reproductive disorders, diseases, and other conditions Educating patients and overseas MED staff: Providing educational sessions and developing information sheets on reproductive health, disease prevention, and the importance of treatment plans. This may also include development of the educational programs and information packets to align with Department and Bureau initiatives. Prescribing medications: Facilitating access to, including prescribing, the spectrum of contraceptive technologies, and consulting with treatment staff on managing medications and side effects. Collaborating with other professionals: Working with other medical and non-medical professionals, such as nurses, MEDEVAC Coordinators, and other bureau staff to evolve and adapt existing practices to align with standards of care. Maintaining records: Reviewing and maintaining medical records for patients and documenting patient progress as necessary. Serving as a sexual assault forensic examiner and consultant in support of MED’s sexual assault response program.
Competencies
The candidate shall possess the following minimum education and experience:
Must be a graduate of an accredited medical college/school with a current valid license to practice medicine from any of the 50 states or the District of Columbia. If not currently licensed in the District of Columbia, will need to obtain a DC license within one year of employment.Must be certified or board eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and must have a minimum of five (5) years of post-residency clinical experience in obstetrics and/or gynecology.Have training as a sexual assault forensic examiner or be willing to participate in such training while in the position.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part position. Typical days and hours of work are within the parameters of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours required, as required by business need.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.Experience
