OB Scrub Technologist

This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit Full Time Nights -12 hour shifts, every third weekend, no mandatory call, holiday requirement **Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position** Non-licensed worker who has been trained to perform certain procedures and tasks under the direction of a registered nurse according to state practice act, hospital policies, procedures, standards, practice skills, check lists and demonstrated competencies. The OB scrub technician has duties related to scrubbing and assisting with surgeries (ie: C/Sections); and maintaining a sterile field according to specific guidelines. The technician may also be assigned to the care and comfort of patients according to the specific needs of the unit, and according to the technician’s knowledge, abilities, and skills. **Essential Functions** + Provides safe, effective nursing care to patients utilizing comfort and preventative measures. + Follows good body mechanics when caring or assisting in the care of patients. + Applies and maintains bed/chair/personal alarms. Considers legal and confidential implications while caring for patients. + Assists patients with religious and cultural requirements. + Reports patient’s complaints of pain/discomfort to nurse promptly. + Provides non-pharmacologic comfort measures, when possible, e.g., positioning, relaxation techniques, distraction. + Communicates patient information to registered nurse. + Completes and reports care provided before leaving nursing unit. + Maintains the confidentiality of patient information and the medical record. + Protects the patient’s right to privacy at all times. + Greets patients, guests, physicians and other department personnel, answers inquiries, and offers assistance in a courteous and polite manner. + Receives messages over the telephone, intercom, computer, FAX, and transmits information to appropriate personnel while protecting patient’s privacy and the integrity of the information. + Answers patient call lights promptly and communicates requests to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner. + Assists physicians and other professional staff to locate patient’s medical records, lab reports or other data. + Communicates supply and repair needs to the nurse manager, charge nurse, unit clerk or the appropriate department. + Demonstrates knowledge of department policies and procedures in order to expedite services, and transmit messages or information to patients, visitors, staff or physicians. + Demonstrates knowledge of role in emergency situations. + Attends 100% of mandatory meetings, in-services, continuing education and participates in committees as opportunities occur. + Promotes unity, collegiality and change in the nursing unit by promoting supportive behavior and displaying a positive attitude. + Participates positively in change within the nursing unit. + Participates in performance improvement projects of nursing unit. + Maintains the nursing station and unit in a neat, organized manner. + Keeps self-abreast of changes within the hospital and the nursing unit by reading policies, procedures, memos, communication book and attending required number of unit meetings. **Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma** **Preferred Education: Surgery Tech Program** **Required Certification: BLS** Many of our opportunities reward* your hard work with: Comprehensive, affordable medical, dental and vision plans Prescription drug coverage Flexible spending accounts Life insurance w/AD&D Employer contributions to retirement savings plan when eligible Paid time off Educational Assistance And much more *Benefits offerings vary according to employment status All applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, or protected veteran status, and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
