A clinically competent certified medical assistant (CMA) works in collaboration with the healthcare team to provide day to day operational clinic workflow efficiency. Creates and uses existing standard work for CMAs to reduce variation in practice and improve outcomes. Trains new CMAs and provides ongoing education to existing CMAs. The Lead MA has working knowledge and location of Policy and Procedure manuals: Safety, Infection control, Administration, MSDS manual, Disaster, Clinic/Practice, Personnel Policies. Completes annual department/unit level quality improvement project (QIP). Assists the manager/supervisor in management of the day-to-day workflow of medical assistants within the clinic by serving as a team lead. Assist with hiring and training other medical assistants. Addresses service complaints as appropriate and coaches team as needed. Collaborates with clinical leadership to conduct annual needs assessment and serves as an annual competency validator. Collaborates with team members and leadership to prevent and resolve service failure process problems. Works with clinic team to identify customer service opportunities and implements strategies for improvement. Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN, or LPN. Responsible for performing routine and more complex medical assistant clinical duties to include, but not limited to, acting as the RQI coach, taking vital signs, administering a limited profile of medications per The Emory Clinic approved policy, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient care setting. As part of a patient focused service, promotes a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction. Assists in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN, or LPN. May also be responsible for some administrative duties in support of patient and practice operations including patient check in/out, responding to patient requests, reinforcing patient and family education, and visitor/telephone reception. Orders, verifies, and stores unit supplies. All duties and patient interaction performed in accordance with Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards. May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas. Performs other related responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualification:
High School Diploma or GED required. Three years as a CMA. Two years working in division/department.
