Occupational Health and Safety Manager (Fixed Term Contract)


Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Occupational Health and Safety Manager (Fixed Term Contract) to join the Project Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting compliance to the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy to leave a sustainable legacy of a healthy, safe work culture for the project.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

•    Develop and implement comprehensive operational readiness plans for new processes, equipment, and technologies.
•    Liaise with the project management team and ensure strict adherence to Health and Safety standards with zero tolerance to non-compliance to standards.
•    Ensure that the Project’s Health and Safety Management Plan is implemented, maintained and continually improved, and that all project activities executed by                related parties are fully compliant with both the Plan, Lumwana site and Barrick’s policies and standards..
•    Implement the Journey to Zero programme as part of the Plan and drive building a positive safety culture among all parties involved in the project.
•    Provide professional H&S advice to the project management team.
•    Represent the Project Manager in H&S matters, including meetings, communications, presentations, and other activities as required.
•    Manage, monitor, and control the implementation of the Project Health and Safety Management Plan.
•    Systematically track and report to the Project Manager on the safety performance of all involved parties, including contractors.
•    Participate in all bidding stages and rise all issues related with safety, accordingly with the Barrick Contractor Management standards.
•    Conduct H&S audits and inspections.
•    Maintain organized records derived from the implementation of this HSMP and its procedures.
•    Maintain close communication with contractors on all H&S matters.
•    Coordinate all H&S activities with the project management team and contractors.
•    Participate in and review all accident/incident investigations.
•    Establish and monitor H&S programs as required.
•    Conduct and review all accident/incident investigations.
•    Attend all contractor kick-off meetings and weekly progress meetings.
•    Conduct frequent meetings with all contractor H&S teams to share and address common project H&S issues.
•    Monitor compliance with legislation and other local H&S requirements.
•    Fulfil other responsibilities as detailed in specific procedures derived from the project Health and Safety plan.
•    Manage and give direction to the health and safety team
 

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:


•    Grade 12 Certificate 
•    Degree in Occupational Health & Safety/Risk Management/Engineering field. 
•    Minimum of 5 - 8 years’ experience in a similar role. 
•    Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in mining/ engineering operational role. 
•    Mining operations experience and experience in mining expansion projects will be added  
•    Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. 
•    Excellent communication and influencing skills. 
•    Ability to conduct analysis and write detailed reports. 
•    Computer literate, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook.
