Position in this function provides, or directs the provision of, hand therapy services, including evaluation and assessment for function and disability; development, implementation and documentation of treatment plans to help restore a patient’s function, improve mobility, relieve pain, or prevent/limit permanent physical disability.  


Primary Responsibilities:

Assess patients, determine a clinical impression, patient’s appropriateness for rehabilitation of the hand and upper extremity, and prognosis for successful rehabilitation.  Assess patients periodically to determine progress towards treatment goals Communicate with the patient, patient’s family, physicians, providers and other team members as needed regarding a patient’s care Develop and implement patients’ treatment plans.  Administer treatment following standards of care in occupational therapy, using modalities and interventions such as physical agents; manual therapy; therapeutic exercises; and functional training to improve posture, body mechanics, coordination, and performance of activities of daily living, and work- or sports-related activities.  Fabricate, fit and train patients for custom and prefabricated orthoses and other assistive devices within the scope of the occupational therapy practice act. Modify, progress or discontinue plan of care as appropriate Demonstrate strong customer service skills Document patient’s care and submit charges for services provided in a timely manner. Submit reports to referring physicians and other parties within timeframe dictated by law or insurance regulation Supervise patient care activities provided by assistants and technicians, as defined by state practice acts Assume responsibility for maintaining a high level of clinical competency, professionalism and ethical practice.  Pursue activities that promote professional growth and development Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

BS, MS or OTD degree in occupational therapy Current Washington State OT license Proven ability to efficiently complete daily documentation Proven ability to effectively cope with typical job stress Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others Proven ability to contribute to a positive working environment Regular attendance and punctuality


Preferred Qualifications:

OT, CHT (or working towards CHT) from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission Considerable experience in hand therapy and certification in Hand Therapy

Skills:

Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language Understand concepts related to the health care system including multidisciplinary team approach, quality care, governmental agencies, private sector, role of other health care providers, health care facilities, issues, and problems Ability to work in fast-paced, team-oriented work environment Knowledge of, and compliance with all standards concerning safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality in the healthcare setting Solid organizational and time management skills Solid computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Windows, Office applications and EMR programs

Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
