Summary:
The Graduate position is tailored to individuals who have graduated from an accredited occupational therapy graduate program, who are eligible to take the Occupational Therapist exam in the State of Maine for the first time and have obtained temporary occupational therapist licensure while awaiting permanent licensure after passing the exam. As such, the purpose of this position is to provide teaching and training in the role and functions of an Occupational Therapist, such that they may merge into an Occupational Therapist position once permanent licensure is obtained. As an Occupational Therapist in training, the Graduate will work under the direction of his/her assigned Clinical supervisor and serve as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. The Graduate will have 90 days after hire to schedule the licensing exam and obtain permanent licensure in the State of Maine. At that time, the Graduate will merge into the Occupational Therapist, as available. If the Graduate does not meet the 90 day requirement, the Clinical Supervisor will have the ability to move the employee into a Psych Tech position or terminate employment.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates competence with administration of all mandatory parts of the evaluation (as tolerated by client), as measured via direct supervision with supervisor while administering evaluation items. Understands rationale for using tests in evaluation batter; be able to articulate rationale to supervisor. Demonstrates the ability to complete a comprehensive report that addresses areas of strengths; deficits; functional performance; client goals; necessary accommodation; and safety, as measured by direct supervision with supervisor. Attends treatment team meeting with supervisor following administration of evaluation to discuss results. Attends other unit/program-based meetings with supervisor in which clinical data is discussed. Demonstrates competence in the area of teaching caregivers specific skills or review recommendations whenever necessary, as measured by direct supervision by supervisor. Demonstrates competence with evaluation reports and does so according to policy and the template, as measured by direct supervision by supervisor. Develops, coordinates and co-facilitates group treatment ideas and strategies that are client centered, as measured by direct supervision by supervisor. Develops, coordinates and co-facilitates individual treatment ideas and strategies that are client centered, as measured by direct supervision by supervisor. Demonstrates competence with SOAP/SOIEAP notes and other progress notes according to policy, as measured by direct supervision by supervisor. Follows department; Nursing; Human Resources, and IDD policies and procedures. Completes duties and manages issues and concerns as directed by your supervisor; policies and procedures; safety officer; department head; and administration. Demonstrates professional behavior toward client, the family, public, co-workers, supervisor, and student interns. Develop and maintain the ability to work collaboratively with others in an interdisciplinary work environment. Functions in role of Occupational Therapy consultant in order to educate other health care providers about client’s functional performance; about occupational therapy; and about occupational performance in general. Uses clinical and administrative supervision to address issues and concerns. Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated. When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Maintains regulatory requirements, including JCAHO, Federal and State.
