Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities. Our fully-accredited non-profit private school combines traditional academics with therapeutic intervention and pre-vocational skill development. Our Adult Services Program includes five licensed community residences/group homes and two adult learning centers. Staffed by experienced therapists and instructors, the program supports adult patients as they attain their highest level of functioning and integration into the community. Matheny's Arts Access program empowers individuals with disabilities to create art without boundaries. Duties of this position include:
+ Conducts evaluations and assessments in accordance with department procedures including children and adults of varying age groups and disabilities.
+ Plans and develops goals and implements appropriate treatment plans for each client based on evaluation results and in coordination with the treating team and caregivers.
+ Delivers effective therapeutic services relevant to the population served and remains knowledgeable of current techniques.
+ Works and communicates with treatment team members by sharing results of evaluations and therapeutic outcomes regarding program goals and objectives.
+ Conducts home visits and demonstrates knowledge and integration of adaptations to promote accessibility and independence in the home environment.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of childhood development from infancy through adolescence and adulthood.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of and can appropriately prescribe aides for daily living.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of departmental technology appropriate for each patient for evaluation including PWC, EADL, AAC and computers.
+ Completes all required documentation in a timely and professional manner.
+ Works and communicates with treatment team members by sharing the results of evaluation
+ Supervises Level I and II students after completion of one year of experience.
+ Demonstrates ability to complete all necessary steps of the discharge process.
+ Actively attends and/or participates in departmental projects, performance improvement initiatives, program development, staff meetings, in-services, and professional growth opportunities.
+ Communicates effectively with patients, families and caregivers, treatment team members, and outside agencies in oral written formats, both formally and informally.
+ Demonstrates ability to conduct transdisciplinary pre-evaluation screening.

Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university required.
Evidence of continuing educational experiences required.
Licensure/Certifications
New Jersey Occupational Therapist license required.
Registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association Board (AOTA) required.
National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) – OTR required.
Membership in AOTA preferred.
