Summary :The Occupational Therapy Assistant works under the general supervision of a licensed occupational therapist and is responsible for providing safe and quality clinical care within ThedaCare. Provides evidence-based activities to support patient progression based on the established plan of care.Job Description:KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Demonstrates competency in the treatment of patients with medical, cognitive, functional, psychosocial, motor, and/or orthopedic/sports related impairment, functional limitation, and/or disability to obtain their maximum level of function.
Collaborates and effectively communicates with supervising occupational therapists regarding patient status, treatment response, goal status, and plan of care according to department, state, and American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) standards and guidelines to provide best practice and continuity of care.
Provides patient-centered care and education by working in partnership with caregivers, patients, and interdisciplinary team members to encourage and empower their active participation in the care plan.
Participates and/or assists with administration of appropriate functional instruments, tests, and measures within scope, and assesses response to interventions.
Completes accurate and timely documentation of services in accordance with professional and compliance standards to ensure accurate billing and coding to maximize reimbursement and compliance.
Demonstrates responsible actions and initiatives to positively impact patient access to care and contribute to the department’s financial performance.
Provides education and mentoring for students, interns, residents, observers, volunteers, and/or new team members to support their development.
Develops and/or implements clinical and community-based activities that improve or expand occupational therapy services within ThedaCare.
Promotes successful relationships with referral sources and within the community to enhance strategic growth and gain market share.
Proactively promotes putting the patient and family first through facilitating a positive patient experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree from an accredited school of occupational therapist assistant
Licensed to practice as an occupational therapist assistant in the State of Wisconsin
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of Fifty (50) pounds without assistance
Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Occasional exposure to sharp objects and instruments
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Occasional high noise level in work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
Occasional exposure to heat sources such as hot water for splinting or heat gun
