Office and Project Assistant (Staff Wage)

The Music Department at the University of Virginia seeks a part-time Office and Project Assistant responsible for providing administrative, facilities, event, and operational support to the department. The Office and Project Assistant will report to the Department Finance and Administration Manager while working closely with other department staff and faculty to execute operations, recitals, events, and other programs.

This position supports a broad range of functions, such as helping publicize events, coordinating volunteers, assisting with management of performances, administrative tasks, collaborating with external contacts, and other projects as assigned to help support the Music Department’s ongoing needs.

Qualified candidates will be highly organized, communicative, diligent, and able to work independently while providing integral support to a small team. The anticipated start date for the position is late February/Early March, 2025. This position is funded through December 25, 2025 with the possibility of continuation dependent on availability of funding. This position will remain open until filled.

Minimum Qualifications 

Education: High School Diploma Experience: At least one year of experienceStrong written, and verbal communication skills with attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a teamExcellent time management skills Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple priorities 

Preferred Qualifications 

Bachelor’s Degree Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Adobe, UVA systems such as Workday, etc. Demonstrated project management skillsPrevious experience related to event management and operationsCreative problem-solving skills and ability to be proactive, teachable, and resourcefulExperience working in Higher Education or with students

Physical Demands:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of computers. This job occasionally requires walking some distance outdoors at UVA to attend meetings, access different buildings, etc.
