We’re currently searching for an Office Service Specialist to join our Schiffert Health Center team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you’re looking for an administrative role in a higher education medical setting, please keep reading.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the Schiffert Health Center team; a department centered on the health and wellbeing of our student population by caring for them in their times of illness or injuries.
2) You’ll be reporting to the Office Manager, in a regular twelve-month, 100% university staff appointment.
3) You’ll serve in a multifunction capacity with in the Medical Records/Receptionist office to assure expedient and friendly patient flow.
4) You'll verify eligibility for services, compile, file maintain and transfer of student health records, and fulfill legal and accreditation standards.
5) You'll provide patient and visitor information and direction in a pleasant and efficient manner.
6) You'll determine patient needs, and make appointments or immediate referrals to clinical personnel as appropriate and enter data as required for immunizations and medical records.
7) You'll be offered a base compensation package between $37,000 - $39,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications
• Ability to exercise good judgment and initiative in accomplishing duties.
• Ability to deal diplomatically, efficiently, helpfully and pleasantly with the public, both in person and on the telephone and in diverse situations is of prime importance.
• Ability to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and to make decisions on medical referrals based on written protocols and verbal instructions.
• Strong oral communication skills and an outgoing manner with the ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with the patients, general public and SHC staff.
• Experience in dealing with the public. Experience in a medical setting with demonstrated basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer experience and knowledge desired.
• Knowledge of Virginia immunization requirements.
• Previous experience in medical office setting.
Preferred Qualifications
• 3 years experience working in a medical office setting; basic knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records.
