Job Summary: The Officer performs security service duties through professional and positive interaction with the public, students, employees and administrators. Responds to a variety of calls; provides assistance in emergency and non-emergency situations. Investigates and documents (both electronically and written) safety hazards, incidents and criminal activities. Has ability to perform the physical and environmental demands as outlined in the job description, policies and procedures. Responsible for patrol of designated areas to insure the protection of the public, students, employees and property of the LLUH organization. Is accountable to the department's chain of command for initiative, judgment and general competence exhibited in the performance of assignments, calls for service and day to day general duties. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred. Minimum two years of experience in a hospital or university security environment or related experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Able to perform job duties while wearing necessary equipment and personal protective gear. Able to read, write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Valid Driver's License required at time of hire. Department of Consumers Affairs Bureau of Security and Investigative Services Guard Card (prior to employment start date) required. Baton certification, chemical agents certification, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required within the first six months of employment. PC 832 training to be completed within the first year of employment.
