Job Description

ProSidian Seeks a Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Geologist / Geophysicist / Consultant [541690 Contract Contingent] located in Cape Town South Africa to support an engagement for U.S. Govt. International Technical Assistance Program (ITAP) providing assistance on technical, regulatory, environmental, and financial management for national development on a range of energy and non-energy resources.  Key Areas of Focus: 1) policy, legal, and regulatory reform; 2) technical, operational, and economic analysis; 3) financial mechanisms and market creation; 4) economic mgmt. , transparency and fiscal policy; 5) environmental impacts and social and community issues related to resource development.  ProSidian provides technical assistance and training related to four Capacity Challenges:  1) TECHNICAL understanding of resources and new extractive technologies / techniques 2) FINANCIAL mgmt.  of revenues from the sector 3) LEGAL best practices for international laws and regulations 4) ENVIRONMENTAL protections for people and environment from sector impacts.  Typical country stakeholders include:  Govt.  officials (national, municipal, regional and village levels); Legislators; national, state, and local regulators; communities (inc. vulnerable groups). 

Candidates shall work to support requirements as a Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Geologist / Geophysicist / Consultant and provide industry technical expertise, experience, training, and support with Energy, Extractives, and Renewable Energy concerns including detailed structural analyses, advanced interpretation of remote sensing data, and regional- to deposit-scale structural evaluation.  Participate in a highly integrated, multi-functional team (including geoscience, engineering, land and regulatory), tasked with opportunity generation, as well as drilling and producing interests.  Advise and assist stakeholders to define the controls on ore distribution, geotechnical domains, and hydrogeological pathways.  In many terranes, exploration is becoming focused on discovering deeper ore bodies and this trend requires a much more reliable understanding of the geometry of structures in the third dimension. This need is driving the development and application of 3D modeling and visualization techniques which are the domains of the Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Geologist / Geophysicist.  Support engagements with use of software such as Gocad, Geomodeller, and Leapfrog with field structural analyses to ensure that mineralization targets are defined by multiple exploration and mining parameters and are directly focused on adding value to the project.

Provide technical expertise, experience, training, and support to estimate mineral resources for mining and exploration projects for mineral commodities by applying geological experience, innovation and technology within industry accepted guidelines.  This person will be involved in all technical job-related activities to support geophysics, geology and environmental investigations.  Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Geologist / Geophysicistalso compile technical reports for the investment community as required by legislation and provide geological advice to institutional and industrial clients prior to investment decisions, including economic assessments and project evaluations.  Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Geologist / Geophysicist ma also provides advice and assistance with audits on Oil and Gas Industry programs and provide assistance in planning exploration projects.

Train and support stakeholders in requirements and processes for developing data packages for tenderapply sophisticated and innovative software in a broad range of applied specialized disciplines (such as remote sensing, geophysics, structural geology, geological modeling, and geochemistry) for exploration targeting aimed at discovering new deposits.Train and support stakeholders on topics related to resource and reserve estimations as well as Oil and Gas Industry planning review, design, and implementationLead prospect evaluations, perform development geology, mapping potential field extensions, create data gathering plans and work with teams to create development plans.Map potential field extensions to help guide development efforts and create data gathering plans; analyze and monitor logging, coring, drill cut samples, etc.Integrate large amounts of data into both regional and prospect level interpretations and use well logs and historic good data to delineate and build isopachs, cross-sections, and reservoir mapping.Identify exploration opportunities for subsurface mapping, data organization, interpretation and integration, presentation, communication, collaboration with other disciplines, adaptability, multitasking, decision making and software skills.Integrate geologic, geophysical, and production data while mapping, planning and executing drilling and development plans.Work closely with Drilling, Land, Government Affairs, Operations, Reservoir Engineering, and Legal, etc. to achieve stakeholder objectives.help clients generate of detailed isopach maps, lithofacies maps, structure maps, and cross-sections from mining logs, cores, seismic interpretation, surface geology, remote sensing and other geological toolsliaising with specialist contractors and suppliers, such as cement companies or suppliers of drilling fluidsmonitoring safety and ensuring the good maintenance and adhering to environmental protection standards, in some cases through direct discussion with local governments to ensure compliance with legislative requirementsestablishing and administering drilling and service contracts and coordinate engineering design and the planning of wells (including development work)

Qualifications

Leadership, Communication, Government  financial management, budgeting, financial modeling, reporting, presentations and at least (10) years Management in fields related to Oil, Gas, Extractives with specialty in management and operations, law, geology, policy, valuations, Corporate Finance, M&A, Energy Investments, environmental policy compliance, Energy Development, Energy Infrastructure, Commodities Management, or Natural Resource markets.

The focus of this work shall be in priority regions countries across The Western Hemisphere [Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Panama, and Suriname] | Europe And Eurasia [Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Albania, and Ukraine]  |  In Sub-Saharan Africa [Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritania, Namibia, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, and South Africa]  |  In The Middle East And North Africa [Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, and Tunisia] | and In Asia And The Pacific [India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Burma, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka]

The Oil and Gas (Petroleum) Geologist / Geophysicist / Consultant shall have Minimum of Ten (10) years of consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/Power point) and related tools and technology required for the position.

BA/BS, MA/MS and/or Ph.D. in Geology or Geophysics (or related fields) and minimum 7-10 years of experience in conventional Oil and Gas development, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in applied unconventional environments.Operations geology experience, preferably with horizontal drilling and competency across generalist geological skills, e.g. subsurface mapping, log analysis, seismic interpretation, stratigraphy, structure etc.10 years of experience and work history with hands-on applications in the geophysical sciences and/or environmental industry including experience and knowledge of investigation techniques.Ability to work well and communicate strongly within a multi-functional and integrated team and handle high workloads, for example simultaneously steering multiple projects while planning others.Exceptional organizational skills and knowledge of Geographic or other geologic software systemsStrong analytical background and skills including the ability to understand stratigraphy and well plans in 3 dimensions with demonstrated leadership, adaptability, and ability to work in a multi-functional team.Significant experience and advanced expertise in unconventional environments, carbonate and complex mineralogy environments, and/or geosteering applications.Working knowledge of Geosoft Oasis montaj, GIS (e.g. ArcView) and data management (e.g. MS Access) software are preferred.Experience with digital geophysical mapping (Geonics EM61 MK2 and Geometrics G858), global positioning systems and data processing will be highly regarded.
