OMFS Specialty Coder - Full Time

GENERAL SUMMARY :
+ Using established processes facilitates the complete complex revenue cycle activities from initial scheduling and authorization with multiple payers and registration functions, to applying medical AND dental coding principles and procedures (utilizing three separate and distinct coding methodologies) accomplished from reviewing and analyzing clinical documentation from the patient's medical record for reimbursement/billing purposes for the division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Dentistry, to all back end processes of reimbursement, follow up and denial management. Accurately abstracts information from the medical record for compilation of a patient database, which supports medical research projects, patient care evaluation and administrative decision making related to patient care.
+ The coding function is considered a primary source for data and information used in health care today, and promotes provider/patient continuity, accurate database information, and the ability to optimize reimbursement.
+ The coding function also ensures compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, regulations and accreditation guidelines. Coordination between medical and dental benefits for OMFS/Dental patients also contributes to the accuracy and timeliness of billing, coding functions related to patient care and activities within the division of OMFS.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
+ High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
+ Minimum of five (5) years office experience in Oral Surgery/Dentist practice/industry required or associate degree required.
+ One to two (1-2) years collegeor Additional coursework in Accounting, Business, Healthcare Administration or Medical Record Sciences,orMedical/dental coding preferred.
+ Specialty coding experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), CPC, or CCS certification preferred.
