Stantec is seeking a mid to senior level on-call Botanist to join our Environmental Services Practice working within Northern California, to provide as-needed biological support over multiple projects and programs. This position may include writing reports, collecting biological data, surveys, habitat assessments and environmental compliance. The position is to be based out of our Sacramento, Roseville, Nevada City, Chico, Redding, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, San Jose, or Fresno offices.
As an on-call Botanist, you may work in highly variable terrain, environments, and locations.
This position is primarily field based but can include desktop work depending on interest and experience. You will perform as-needed botanical support.
Task duties include:
Communicating with your team, team leads, project manager and potentially construction crews, clients, or other stakeholders.
Preparing daily monitoring and/or field reports. Your Capabilities and Credentials
Knowledge of California ecosystems and floristics, and experience with the Jepson Manual.
Excellent written and communication skills.
Should be familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
Provide support in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams.
Strong skills as a self-starter
Lead or assist in field work tasks as needed, primarily for floristic surveys and vegetation mapping and sampling, including experience with the Manual of California Vegetation.
Able to build strong relationships with clients while in the field and communicating.
Participation in team lead efforts as well as independent field work.
Strong sense of safety and ability to participate in, uphold and enforce Stantec’s strong safety programs.
Good driving record and a valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred but not required:
Experience in driving ATVs
CPR/Wilderness First Aid Certification
Education and Experience
Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of relevant field experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs
