POWER Engineers Inc. is seeking multiple on-call Desert Tortoise Biologists for our Environmental Division – Rocky Mountain Biology Department. This position is based out of Las Vegas, Nevada, and would be for construction monitoring on various projects in and around Nevada and the western U.S. 

Roles and responsibilities

As an On- Call Desert Tortoise Biologist, you will support the environmental project team focused on environmental surveys, permitting, and construction monitoring/environmental compliance of transmission lines, renewable energy infrastructure, and oil and gas pipeline projects. Responsibilities will include supporting biological field survey efforts and environmental compliance construction monitoring in Nevada in addition to other projects throughout the western U.S.

The position will be filled by a detail-oriented candidate, with a demonstrated ability to work independently. An established and successful history of conducting environmental compliance monitoring is desired for this candidate. The candidate must have the experience to complete biological field surveys for desert tortoise and the ability to work in rugged conditions and communicate effectively with construction personnel. Priority will be given to candidates who have been an Authorized Desert Tortoise Biologist on previous projects. While much of the work for this position is in the field, effective communication skills are important for success in this role.

Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, or Ecology, or experience in construction monitoring for at least three seasons or on at least three different projects Demonstrated experience with U.S. Fish and Wildlife desert tortoise survey protocols and compliance regulations Substantial biological field survey knowledge Attention to detail and commitment to quality and professionalism Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Must be able to work in remote conditions and independently Mobile data collection proficiency Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with construction crews and contractors regarding environmental regulations and requirements
