On-Call Urban Planner

Freese and Nichols, Inc. (FNI) is currently searching for an urban planner to join our award-winning Urban Planning and Design Group in a part-time on-call capacity, ideal for individuals seeking professional work but not necessarily on a full-time basis. The position will primarily support staff augmentation to urban planning and development services functions of cities and counties, such as development application review, long-range planning efforts, and other planning issues. The candidate must be a well-organized self-starter, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 

Work in a collaborative environment as part of a multi-discipline team. Act as a planner independently or part of a project team responsible for a variety of tasks including research, demographics, land use, master planning, zoning, writing, and meeting preparation.Demonstrate ability to produce well-written reports.Support the planning team in public meeting facilitation, including Board & Commission meetings and City Council meetings.Manage personal timeliness and technical correctness of a project to ensure high-quality work that fits within a client’s budget and expectations. Be willing to travel as needed to meet project commitments.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications:  

5+ years of urban planning-related work experience. Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related planning field required. AICP CertifiedProficiency in Microsoft Office. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:  

Master’s degree in Urban Planning. Prior work with or in a municipal planning department or consulting firm desirable. Skills in Adobe Creative Suite, GIS/mapping and graphic skills desired.
