OVERVIEW
The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for an On-Call Writing Tutor position within the Morrison Family College of Health.
This is a part-time position that works remotely, 2 to 8 hours a week. The schedule will largely be dictated by the student’s availability, which is often evenings and weekends, but ultimately the person in this role should have the flexibility to set their own schedule.

JOB SUMMARY
The Morrison Family College of Health is seeking a professional writing tutor to provide support for graduate students enrolled in programs across academic disciplines in the Morrison Family College of Health. The individual in this will work directly with students to help them understand writing assignments, APA formatting, and basic writing components. This is primarily a remote position, with occasional needs to be on campus for meetings or to provide writing workshops. The work schedule will be set to meet the needs of the successful candidate but must include weekend and evening availability to meet the needs of our graduate students and will require up to 15 hours each week while classes are in session, to include summers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Support master- and doctorate- level graduate students within the School of Social Work (SSW), graduate students within the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP), and graduate students in the School of Nursing (SON) in the Morrison Family College of Health (MFCOH) via video conferencing. Support students in learning to interpret assignments, utilize APA format, apply rubric evaluation tools, and self-reflect upon their writing within the context of their coursework and broader graduate studies. Provide instructive feedback on scholarly writing components to include relevance, clarity, style, and mechanics. Consult with the Student Success Director and faculty as needed.
+ Maintain a record-keeping system that documents services provided to students. Write up and submit reports following each session. Documentation shall summarize and offer description of work completed with students (one note per session).
+ Conduct periodic assessments in consultation with the Student Success Director as needed to ensure that graduate writing support best meets student and academic program’s needs.
+ Manage the writing support email account. Manage appointment scheduling system. Respond to communications in a timely manner.
+ Develop and execute workshops and resources designed to instruct students on writing at the graduate level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in a relevant field
+ Two or more years’ experience as a writing tutor, instructor, or editor, preferably in an educational environment

Preferred Qualifications:
+ ELL/ESL experience or certification strongly preferred
+ Degree in health-related field preferred
Special Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Knowledge: Working knowledge of video conferencing platforms supported at St. Thomas and Microsoft Office 365 products. Extensive knowledge of APA style formatting.
Skills and Abilities: Illustrates strong graduate level writing ability. Exhibits excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently. Endorses writing as an iterative and developmental process. Demonstrated cultural responsiveness and compassion for others’ experiences as people and as learners.
