Onc Data Spec/Cancer Registrar

Summary

Under the supervision of the Data, Quality & Metrics (DQM) Director, reviews a variety of case finding sources to identify patients to be reported to the state and national databases. Maintains expert knowledge of Standards of Oncology Registry Entry (STORE), The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) and the American College of Surgeon (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards. Acts as a subject matter expert in accurate and timely data abstraction as defined by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) and submits accurate data to regulatory and certifying bodies. Reviews patient documentation and diagnostic information to assign and report codes for diagnosing and treating cancers. Performs tasks as needed to comply with all cancer program accreditations and certifications. Assists with Packnett Family Cancer Institute (PFCI) data collection processes as assigned.

 

Education

High School graduate or GED equivalent required.

 

Licensure/Certification

Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification or RHIT or Associate degree. If not ODS or CTR certified, must obtain ODS or CTR certification within three years of employment.

 

Experience

3-5 years experience in clinical data abstraction. Preferred experience in oncology and cancer registry.

 

Other Qualifications

Knowledge of statistics and data/collection reporting methods. Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record/preferably Epic. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data analytics. Must have excellent verbal and communication skills. Must be accurate and proficient in data abstraction and analysis.
